WAUKOMIS, OK – Set for a June 2021 debut, Buffalo Point Retreat will open as the premier boutique event destination in Oklahoma. Having served as a private estate since 2011, Buffalo Point will soon become accessible to the public for the first time. Featuring a picturesque space for weddings, meetings, and other private gatherings and retreats, Buffalo Point’s one-of-a-kind onsite lodging sets it apart from all other luxury venues within the drive-to market.

A sprawling complex situated on more than seven acres of pastoral farmland, Buffalo Point offers a thoughtfully curated experience tailored to each guest’s needs, from fully provisioned private kitchens with farm fresh produce to wine tastings sourced from the property’s own garden and vineyard. With a rural-meets-upscale aesthetic to match its relaxed setting, Buffalo Point is the years-long vision of owners Mo and Richard Anderson, who have uniquely cultivated a slice of secluded serenity while also providing a space for greater community connection. Designed for buyouts and private functions, guests of Buffalo Point will have exclusive access to all of the property’s facilities including The Barn, a custom designed pool, vineyard, greenhouse and gardens, chicken coop, and seven rooms of lodging throughout the duration of their visit.

“Watching our dream of relaunching Buffalo Point become a reality has been nothing short of amazing and a true labor of love,” said Mo Anderson. “After years of enjoying this special place with our loved ones, Richard and I wanted to share it with others and offer a beautiful retreat for people to celebrate life’s special moments and milestones. After a year like 2020, there is a renewed appreciation for opportunities to come together with family, friends, and colleagues, and it is our hope that Buffalo Point will be a place where lasting memories are made.”

The Andersons, who are best known as an entrepreneurial power couple within the real estate and business sectors, have strong ties to Waukomis, where they both grew up. The high school sweethearts were raised with humble beginnings as the children of farmers and immigrants, and each went on to build a successful business empire, illustrating their own American family success story. Nicknamed the “Velvet Hammer,” for her soft and distinctly effective leadership style, Mo serves as co-owner, vice chairman and former CEO of Keller Williams Realty, as well as a renowned speaker, thought leader, educator and Oklahoma Hall of Fame honoree. She is also largely credited as the driving force that helped to make Keller Williams one of the most successful global franchises in real estate history. Richard, owner of Stonebridge Village headquartered in Enid, OK, is a visionary in his own right and a successful developer in both commercial and residential real estate. Together with their business partner and cousin Gene Anderson, who was also born and raised in Waukomis, the Andersons are passionate about giving back to the community that shaped them.

Having gone through a multi-phase development that initially began in 2011 as a plan to build a private home, Buffalo Point has been fully converted to a public-facing retreat, but the warm essence of the Andersons’ hospitality remains firmly intact in its new iteration. Their collective style and personality is expertly woven into each part of the property, which was brought to life by Austin, TX-based interior designer Betty Shaw of B Shaw Design, who was also appointed to design the Andersons’ primary residence. Through a rustic elegance that is authentically Oklahoma in look and feel, Buffalo Point is a subdued masterpiece, anchored by an earthy palette of browns and beiges as well as natural elements like wood and stone throughout the guest rooms and communal spaces alike.

A destination in itself, Buffalo Point is divided into multiple structures, inclusive of three bookable guest lodging units with seven total guest rooms, all of which have been purposefully named in honor of local people, events, and culture. The Land Run Suite comprises two guest rooms: Boomer Room and Sooner Room, along with a fully furnished living room, full kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances, and dining area. The Pioneer House is the largest lodging unit with two floors and four guest rooms: The Frederick Anderson Room, Cecil Cornish Room, Pistol Pete Room, and “Happy” Camp Room, as well as a large, furnished great room, a fully outfitted kitchen and dining room, and a spare room with games and a separate pantry, named Longhorn Room on the second floor overlooking The Courtyard. The Chisolm Trail room is a single guest room unit with a kitchenette and cozy seating area for two. While every unit and individual room is unique in architecture and design, each is equipped with all the comforts of home and luxury amenities including Matouk Hotel Collection towels and linens as well as Natura Bissé bath amenities. Buffalo Point will be the first and only lodging property in OK within the Matouk Hotel Collection.

Weddings, corporate retreats, and other private retreats and gatherings will be a cornerstone of the Buffalo Point experience, with The Barn serving as the primary venue for up to 80 guests. An Amish-style structure built using traditional timber frame construction with hand hewn timbers, this historic technique relies on the finest craftsmanship, quality wood, and sophisticated mortise and tenon joinery. The rustic 3,600 square foot space features a kitchen for catering, loft and lower seating areas that can be set up as breakout spaces, a wide-open main floor space that can be easily transformed for a myriad of different functions, and AV capabilities. For smaller or more casual gatherings, guests can utilize the outdoor Courtyard in the center of the property, which is complete with a fire pit, grill, gazebo, and custom stone fountain.

Just beyond the gates of Buffalo Point is downtown Waukomis, which the Andersons have also invested in as a means to preserve the historic town. They have created new infrastructure and redeveloped a portion of the downtown area, named Buffalo Junction, which is helping to celebrate and cement Waukomis’s legacy as the thriving agricultural destination it once was before urban development drove much of its population into cities throughout the 20th century. Buffalo Junction is a charming strip of newly opened local businesses including Mo’s Place café, serving gourmet coffee and hometown-style dishes, the newly reinvigorated Shorty’s barbershop, Painted Buffalo Trading Co. boutique gift shop, and the Chapel of Joy venue for wedding ceremonies. A new Buffalo Junction residential apartment complex and interactive mural and sculpture park dedicated to the pioneers who started Waukomis are also located on the downtown strip. Located four blocks from the property, guests of Buffalo Point have walkable access to the newly redeveloped downtown destination.

Lodging and event bookings for this spring and beyond are now available at Buffalo Point. Lodging rates begin at $3,750/night plus tax for a two-night minimum and include full access and usage of the retreat’s seven guest rooms. Event venue rates begin at $1,000 plus tax for a six-hour rental and $11,450 plus tax for two-day exclusive use of the venue spaces plus two nights of lodging.
